Project Description
The Brief
Discovery Holiday Parks engaged us to design a number of 3 storey modular structures with a total of 200 accommodation units as well as a 2 storey modular kitchen/dining area capable of accommodating 300 people.
As it was to be delivered to an area prone to cyclone activity, all structures had to include storm surge requirements and be able to withstand cyclonic wind conditions of up to 200km per hour.
The Challenge
With the units being prefabricated in Thailand and then shipped to Australia, one of the major challenges was ensuring that everything was completed to a standard that met Australian requirements. This was achieved by a highly involved consultation and inspection process involving the Thai based contractor.
From a design perspective, the primary challenge was allowing construction tolerance for modules connecting together in all sides whilst maintaining the necessary high wind resistance capability.
The Result
We’re happy to report that the client was extremely happy with what we were able to deliver. Highly functional, aesthetically pleasing and built to an exceptionally high standard, our work on the Discovery Holiday Parks Development is a great example of our ability to deliver highly technical, specific and robust commercial structures.
