Project Description
The Brief
With Bolton Way, Inspired Homes wanted to create a highly functionable family home with a self-containing parent wing that is separated from the remaining bedrooms.
The specification included high 34c ceilings to the living, theatre, and games areas with 37c raised coffered ceilings to the living and theatre rooms.
The client also wished for the bi-fold doors to the alfresco area to meet at the corner with no column support to allow for the outdoor areas to meet seamlessly with the internal living areas.
The Challenge
As 90mm is typically only suitable up to 31c ceilings we had to thinking of alternative methods to achieve the 34c and 37c raised ceilings. The solution was to look at using 110 wide bricks or 90 wide maxi tie down bricks with internal rods to achieve the additional strength for the high ceilings.
The corner column problem was resolved by extend the main t-lintel over the bi-fold doors an additional 1300 to an internal pier located at the fireplace. This allowed for the perpendicular t-lintel to intersect the main t-lintel and be fully welded together producing the support without the need of the corner column.
The Result
Bolton Way produced a beautiful and highly functionable home that has sophisticated structural comments incorporated into the design to achieve the very modern look. Prompt Engineering is very proud of the engineering that went into the design of this magnificent home. The Bolton way was also a winner and finalist in the following award categories:
- WINNER 2018 HIA PROJECT HOME, Metro
